Night

He comes to me on velvet toes
With softly whispered sighs
And stands within our shared doorway
And rakes me with his eyes
Afraid to enter in the room
He seeks his comfort there
With trembling limbs and heavy breaths
Content within to stare

I grant to him this right to view
What no one else would dare
And know that this is all I have
To offer for his care
My body's hot, my heart beats fast
My center is aflame
I long to touch his gentle soul
And whimper out his name

Yet looks and sighs are all we have
To risk more can not be
I lift a prayer that someday soon
Our love will be set free
